Chronic sinusitis, a prolonged inflammation of the sinuses, is a common condition that can significantly affect a person’s quality of life. It often results in symptoms such as nasal congestion, facial pain, and headaches, which can persist for months or even years if not properly managed (Mohammed et al., 2024). Effective management of chronic sinusitis requires a multifaceted approach that includes medication, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, surgical intervention (Adamu et al., 2023). Nurses are integral to the management of chronic sinusitis, especially in ensuring patient adherence to treatment plans, providing education on symptom management, and monitoring for complications (Yusuf et al., 2024).
In Benue State, where healthcare access can be limited, the role of nurses becomes even more crucial. They are often responsible for educating patients about the importance of medication adherence, the use of saline nasal sprays, and other home management strategies (Suleiman et al., 2023). However, there is limited research on the specific role of nurses in the management of chronic sinusitis within Benue State’s healthcare settings. This study seeks to evaluate nurses’ involvement in managing chronic sinusitis and to identify challenges they may face in providing effective care.
Chronic sinusitis is a widespread condition that can significantly affect patient well-being, yet many patients do not receive adequate education or support for managing their condition. Nurses play a critical role in educating patients and ensuring that they adhere to prescribed treatments. However, in Benue State, limited research exists on the role nurses play in managing chronic sinusitis, leaving a gap in understanding their contribution to patient care and the challenges they face.
This study will focus on nurses working in hospitals in Benue State, specifically evaluating their role in managing chronic sinusitis. Limitations may include challenges in access to medical records and variations in the availability of treatment options across different healthcare facilities.
